Albania, Bhutan, Nepal, Paraguay, Iceland, Ethiopia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. These eight countries produced more than 99.7% of their electricity using a mix of renewable energies: hydro, solar, geothermal, and wind power. What an exciting and hopeful list to be on!

Transitioning to renewable energy sources represents a concerted effort at the policy level to empower this change. According to photographer Milan Radisics, “The ever-growing population of the earth makes the supply of water, food and energy the greatest challenge ahead of us. To that effect, the city of Toledo maximises the potential of its surroundings. I took this photograph in the last hours of 31 December 2018 as a personal pledge and a message to the world that it is high time to change our attitude towards the environment”.

We must all journey together towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Net-Zero goals.

This award-winning photograph was shortlisted in the Solutions Category of the COP28 Photography Competition, a collaboration between The Climate Tribe and the Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Rashid al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA). The Climate Tribe has partnered with HIPA to leverage the power of photography to inspire global awareness of sustainability and advance climate action.
