Capturing the traditional Habta markets in Oman which take place before Eid holidays is capturing tradition, culture and community. Habta markets revive Omani heritage bringing people of the community together in a space rich in trading goods and stories.

Be it livestock, food, crafts, clothes and spices, traders and craftsmen come from all over Oman to offer their goods at competitive prices which are met with various bargaining skills. A way to prepare for the holidays these markets are seen as preserving Omani tradition and culture.

This award-winning photograph is from the eighth season, “Hope”, of the Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Rashid al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) Archive. The Climate Tribe has partnered with HIPA, leveraging the power of photography to inspire global awareness of sustainability and advance climate action.
