Pareidolia (par-ei-do-lia): the perception of recognisable images, especially faces, in random or accidental arrangements of shapes and lines.
Photographer and Land Artist Laurence Winram believes humanity generally only sees through a small window of what reality has to offer. The more time he spends in nature, the more he gets glimpses of a wider world, one that is wholly magical and unlimited. This magic in the mundane inspires everything he creates, including the Pareidolia piece with ferns. Illustrating that sense of wonder and mystery, Winram says, “The more time I spend in nature and pay attention, the richer and more joyful my experience of it has become. It’s important we learn this kind of awareness as without it, we may continue destroying our environment.”
